Who should be in charge of the development of a business website? EPNET believe this should be controlled by the people responsible for the marketing of a company. |

It has been the experience of EPNET that
small to medium companies like to involve the M.D. or
marketing people in the company when preparing a website
brief, whereas larger companies
tend to give this job to their IT Department. What is
wrong with this? |
Firstly marketing departments tend to shy away from the
Internet as they think that, "it has something to do
with computers". No so the World Wide Web has solidly
everything to do with the marketing of a company. You
would not give the task of developing a brochure or TV
commercial to your IT Department.
Sure building a
website can get very technical however so can the
production of a TV commercial, marketing departments are
not expected to understand the technical aspects of
developing a TV commercial and it is exactly the same
situation on the Internet and developing a website. |
IT Departments are not qualified to be responsible for
the companies marketing. |

Developing and designing a website can only be
controlled by the companies communication experts. The
critical aspects of the "look and feel" and the content
are more to do with corporate communications and sales
than they are to do with IT. EPNET have been
approached many times to develop corporate websites,
sometimes we become committed before we understand who
we are dealing with, however every time someone phones us and says
that they represent so and so company and that they are
the IT expert of that company we always turn down the
business. |
